How did your passion for travel get started?
As I was envisioned in Jordan, before I was born, I want to say! I was fortunate to have parents though, so for them a family vacation involved going into the Gambia instead of somewhere. They were put off by the fact that a military coup was going on at that point in 1994!
How many days/weeks are you traveling in any given calendar year? What are the sorts?
I didn’t really detect the love till I was 20 when I moved off to Thailand. It was on this trip that I realised encounter different people’s cultures and I wanted to travel as much as I could.
An Adventurous World, your travel blog, has been created after years of traveling in 2014. It has since won awards and has been featured in publications around the globe. To what do you attribute its success?
Normally I’m on the street for approximately 6 months of this year and itall’s travelling over the whole world. I also adore South America and Southeast Asia too, although I always love exploring new areas I have never been around before. I have a soft spot for all those two regions and am always glad going back there.
You worked as a journalist and a journey writer before becoming a blogger and traveler and started out studying. What was that travel like? Is there anything that you wish you’d known?
Good question! Frankly, it’s been a whole lot of hard work over the years and I am little in contrast to other bloggers/vloggers out there. However, I tried to find the joy in everywhere I go and also to tell it the way things are — I still believe that resonates with folks a lot.
One of the most unique blog posts is one where you talk about various ways you have”f***ed up” while vacationing, such as an illness you picked up in Bangladesh, obtaining your camera stolen at Colombia, and much more. Why is it important for you to share these moments?
I guess it would have been useful to study film or photography at uni as opposed to biochemistry although it’s easy to say over a decade after!
What do you want viewers learn and to achieve from the job?
Saying that gave me a really analytical mind that helped with the journalism and travel journalism, and now I have carried that through into blogging. I always make sure I compose in a way.
What are the top 3 destinations you have visited?
In the modern Instagram-driven society everyone thinks life’s perfect I believe. And when it’s not, it ought to be.
Give us your’Top 5′ list for a few of the top 3 destinations. Just like a mini-guide or some to-do listing of sorts. It may be anything in your favorite hotel, best place to get lunch, finest sightseeing, etc..
Life isn’t like this at all though. It’s a journey with plenty of downs and ups and experiences on the way. I believe it very important to share those downs with people to empathise with them. I found I have heard a great deal more about myself once something goes wrong than just taking it easy on a beach somewhere! Life’s not perfect, I am certainly not perfect, and I believe it’s very important to document this and remind folks that that’s fine too.
How many countries have you visited so far?
I need to inspire people see and to travel the world. There are so many awesome cultures and adventures out there — I’m glad if I can get folks do find that out!
What are the top 3 favorite perfumes?
This is such a question but I am not one to sit on the fence. I would say India, Greenland and Colombia.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the world? What dish do you advocate?
For Greenland, I would say:
What’s your travel film?
I think I’m at the 77 mark? Around that number.
What’s your favourite airport?
I am satisfied with some of those.
Which city had the friendliest people?
Disfrutar in Barcelona.
It was voted as the 9th greatest restaurant in the world. I had a 27-course banquet, when I was there and it was. Frankly, it’s just so so good. Worth visiting with Barcelona for this place.
Who’s your travel companion?
Into the Wild.
What a film that is (makes me cry every time too…)
What’s the ideal way to kill time while traveling?
Changi International Airport in Singapore is amazing (an obvious choice), however, the very small airport in Cornwall, UK, is fantastic too. You can get off the airplane to your own hire car in under 10 minutes — maybe not many areas where you can do this!
What’s the most exotic place you have been taken by your career?
I would say the folks in Copenhagen. I always have an wonderful time there and I really like partying with the locals.
What’s your best bit?
This is a simple one. My fiancé and travel blogger Wanderlust Chloe!
What are 4 things that you could never travel without?
I say listening and reading to songs. I wish I was not on my cellphone so much but that comes with the task.
What’s your ultimate dream destination?
Perhaps Raja Ampat in Indonesia?
It’s one of the most beautiful and pristine areas in the world, difficult and quite secluded to get to. That was an actual”pinch me” minute.
What’s your travel quotation?
Make sure you do it. I see folks needing to become bloggers these days to generate income. You should want to be a blogger of telling tales to the benefit, not to the money.
Where are you headed?
Always a fantastic question! My camera, telephone (mainly for the audio ), Kindle plus laptop? When I am travelling in my my Kindle is my most prized possession because when I wish to turn off from it I go to.
I would say somewhere like Ecuador that has a bit of everything — the cosmopolitan cities with amazing restaurants, beautiful beaches where it is possible to go surfing, and a few experiences like trekking Cotopaxi volcano. Oh, then there is the Galapagos Islands! I would really like to do another trip though that is for sure!
